Mexico City, Mexico – On Sunday October 19th, team Panteras, from the Universidad Panamericana High School, participated in the opening ceremony of the artistic event "Guitar Town CDMX 2014" sponsored by Gibson and the Mexico City's Government. For this, the team adapted and programmed a robot to paint a 10-foot tall guitar autonomously; which was later signed by the Head of Government of the Federal District: Dr. Miguel Angel Mancera. It will be exposed on the Reforma Avenue for a month and half.

The team’s participation painting the Les Paul Gibson was announced at the presentation of the 2014 FIRST Robotics competition robot at the Pepsi Center in Mexico City in February of this year.

To achieve the project, the team’s students and mentors used an industrial robot of the Universidad Panamericana’s Faculty of Engineering. The advice on installation, setup and spare parts were supplied by ABB Mexico. Space and transportation was donated by ArtCenter de Mexico, sponsor of the team since its first season in 2007. Finally the design, the electronic and the painting tool’s machining were provided by Emisha, Baud and SIES.

On the night of Saturday October 18th, the robot departed ArtCenter at 22:00, heading to the demonstration site at the roundabout of the Angel of Independence, where the team prepared him for his act during the Sunday’s early morning, fighting the rain and weather.

The event began at 12:00 pm on Sunday 19th, with the participation of the Mexico City's Head of Government: Dr. Miguel Ángel Mancera, Ambassador of the United States in Mexico: Anthony Wayne; singer-songwriter Jay La Cueva as the Guitar Town Mexico’s ambassador; alongside other leading figures from the industry of art, music and entertainment.

The Panteras’ guitar theme was robotics, mechatronics and education. The design incorporates visual elements of engineering components such as gears and tracks of electronic circuits. However, the main detail is the appearance of a triangle, circle and square; red, white and blue, respectively; the three most representative figures of geometry and science. Which also recreate the logo of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a United States foundation whose vision is to transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders.

The participation of a robot painting live at Guitar Town CDMX 2014 not only makes this edition unique to those presented earlier in cities like Nashville, Austin and London; but also demonstrates the integration of science and technology in the metropolis that is Mexico City. The team Panteras’ is honored to represent the innovation, commitment and progress in the country, through a cultural exhibition aimed at all sectors of the capital's population.

In an effort to promote science and technology, Panteras has planned more exposures with his competition robots in various events that will take place in the next months. Stand out NIDays at the Centro Banamex on October 22, and Exposhow Auto y Avión from November 6 to 9 at the Atlixco’s airfield in Puebla.
